I present to you, Sir, Sri Gahan Chandra Goswami. Sri Gahan Chandra Goswami was born in 1900 in Tezpur, Assam. Sri Gahan Chandra Goswami receives his training in Ankia Nat and other allied arts under the late Narayan Chandra and Bishambhar Goswami. Sri Goswami is well-versed in all the arts practiced in Satra, a religio- cultural institution of Assam founded by the great Vaishnava Saint, Sri Sankardeva. He has devoted all his life to the development of these arts in the Nikamul Satra, Tezpur. He has worked for the standardization of Raga and Tala for Borgeet, the traditional music of Assam and runs a Music College for training students in Satra music in his Satra. Sri Gahan Chandra Goswami has been honoured and has received titles from many cultural institutions for his services to the arts. In 1961 he received the State Snageet Natak Akademi Award for being a distinguished Khol player, He is a member of the Executive Board of the Assam Sangeet Natak Akademi. Sri Goswami has been very active in the political and social life of Assam. For his eminence in the field of traditional theatre and his contribution to its enrichment Sri Gahan Chandra Goswami receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Ankia Nat Traditional Theatre.
