Born in 1951 in Raj Berhampur, Orissa, Shri Robin Das is a graduate of the National School of Drama, Delhi. He is also trained in Chhau dance, Thang- ta, and other martial arts. A specialist in stagecraft, Robin Das has designed sets for productions by leading directors including Ebrahim Alkazi, Habib Tanvir, B.V. Karanth, Barry John, and Fritz Bennewitz. Some of the plays on which he has worked are Jag Utha Hai Raigarh, Andher Nagari, Bury the Dead, Oedipus, and Othello. He has designed and directed more than forty plays for the National School of Drama and for his own theatre group, Forum for Assimilation of Modern Indian Theatre. Some of his notable produc- tions are Death of a Salesman, Titus Andronicus, Don Juan, Baki Itihas, Bade na Khelen Chhote Khel, and Mrichhakati- kam. Since 1977, Robin Das has been working in the National School of Drama, where he teaches scenic design. He is now an Associate Professor in the institution. He has conduct- ed several theatre workshops in India and abroad, and has also directed two films. Shri Robin Das receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to theatre as a scenic designer.
