Lachman Singh Seen

Born in 1927 in Sialkot in western Punjab, which falls in Pakistan today, Shri Lachman Singh Seen received his training in Tabla from Mian Qadir Baksh of the Punjab school. He also received training in Sitar from Shri Balwant Rai Verma. Shri Lachman Singh Seen played Tabla for thirteen years on All India Radio, Jalandhar, and has been an A Grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan since 1962. He has produced audio-cassettes of rare talas, and has been recorded for archival purposes by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Punjab. For his contribution to Tabla music, Shri Lachman Singh Seen received the Tansen Vishnu Digambar Award in 1956. In 2002, he was conferred the Pride of Indian Classical Music Award by the Virasat Foundation of Canada. Shri Lachman Singh Seen receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
