Kuldeep Singh

Born in 1942 in Hasan Abdal, now falling in Pakistan, Shri Kuldip Singh Vig has been associated with the theatre as a composer for four decades. He has composed music for numerous plays as well as teleserials and films. Shri Kuldip Singh started learning music at a very young age from S. Joginder Singh Jogi of the Shamchurasi gharana, and trained under his guidance for a period of nine years. He was later a student of Shri Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale. Shri Vig obtained a Master’s degree in psychology from the University of Bombay, and joined the Indian Peoples Theatre Association (IPTA) some forty years ago. Currently, he is Patron of IPTA’s Mumbai chapter. Other than IPTA productions, he has composed music for theatre groups in Mumbai such as Ekjute and Ank. His major productions include Bakri, Lok Katha, Moteram ka Satyagraha, Girija ke Sapne, Pencil se Brush Tak and Azdak ka Insaf. Others on the list are Suman aur Sana directed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya by Dinesh Thakur, Agar aur Magar and Ghalibnama produced by Salim Arif and Kaifi aur Main by Ramesh Talwar. Shri Vig has also received popular acclaim for his sensitive and melodious compositions in the Hindi feature film Saath Saath in 1982, besides Train to Pakistan and Ankush. Shri Kuldip Singh Vig receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to theatre music.
