Kamal Arora

Born in 1941 in Jhang in western Punjab, which now falls in Pakistan, Shri Kamal Arora is a multi-faceted personality in the field of the arts. Currently Vice- Chairman of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Shri Arora has donned many roles during his career in theatre spanning more than five decades. He was initiated into the art of make-up for theatre by his guru Shri Sharda Charan Chatterji at a very young age. He took this up as a profession and has to date done make-up for more than a hundred and fifty productions. These include plays like Ashadh ka Ek Din, Suno Janmejaya, Evam Indrajit, Andha Yug, Pair Tale ki Zamin, Godot ki Intezar Mein, Pagla Ghora, Mirza Sahiban, Aathvan Sarg, Mudra Rakshas, Mitti ki Gadi, Lal Kaner, Hayavadan and Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf among others. Shri Arora has also involved himself in theatre as a successful actor, director and producer. Some of the major productions he has been associated with in these capacities are Bhagat Prahlad, Raja Harish Chandra, Anaarkali ki Wapsi, Agni aur Barkha, and O Jammeya Ee Nai. For his lifetime achievement in the arts, Shri Kamal Arora has been conferred the Award of Honour by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. Shri Kamal Arora receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to theatre as a make-up artist.
