Born in 1954 in Barasat in West Bengal Shri Anindo Chatterjee received his training in Tabla from Pandit fnan Prakash Ghosh and Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan and thus represents the Fanukha- bad, Punjab, and Lucknow gharanas. He has also trained in vocal music and Sitar. A versatile musician, Shri Chatterjee has accompanied the leading Hindustani vocalists and instrumentalists on Tabla. He is also a proficient soloist. His renderings are marked by purity of style and brilliant improvisa- tions. He has taught Tabla at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London. Shri Chatterjee has more than sixty albums of Tabla recordings ta his credit. His performances accompanying Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, and other distinguished artists have been widely appreciated. He has been featured in prestigious music festivals in India, and in the UK, Germany, U.S.A., and Switzerland. Shri Anindo Chatterjee rece- ives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
