Born in July 1931 Sri Srivastava, 30 years ago, was associated first with the art of make-up in some of the Prithvi Theatre productions such as Diwar, Pathan, etc. Since then he has been working as make-up artist for leading theatre groups. He has specialised in instant make-up technique and in make- up for special effects. He has also done make-up for a number of films including B.B.C.’s Fifty Five Columns and Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi. He has given many lecture demonstrations on make-up in National School of Drama, New Delhi, Film & TV Institute, Pune and in a number of theatre workshops arranged by Ministry of Education and by State Akademis. He is presently employed as make-up artist in Doordarshan and working on two books on make-up for stage, films and TV. For his eminence in the field of stagecraft and his contribu- tion to its enrichment Sri Ashok Srivastava receives Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Make-up for 1981.
