Swapan Chaudhuri

Born in 1947 in Calcutta, Shri Swapan Chaudhuri received his training the in the Tabla from Pandit Santosh Krishna Biswas and Pandit P.L. Rana of the Lucknow gharana. He became a well-known Tabla-player while still young, providing accompaniment to many of the leading musicians in the country. Shri Swapan Chaudhun has performed widely In India and abroad, accompanying Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, and Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee among others. He has taught Tabla at various universities and music institu- tions and is at present Director of Percussion at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California (U.S.A.) and Basel (Switzer- land). He has received various honours for his work. Shri Swapan Chaudhuri receives the Sangeet Natak Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
