M. G. Rangnekar



Sri M. G. Rangnekar was born on 10 April 1907. He started his career as a journalist. In 1941 he founded the professional dramatic company, ‘Natya Niketan’. For three decades he was its director and during this period he produced 38 plays. His popular play Kulawadhu had a record of 2,000 per- formances. He has composed several songs and is the author of twenty plays. He was honoured by the Govt. of Maharashtra for his services to the Marathi stage. He was the President of the Marathi Natya Sammelan in 1967. For his eminence in the field of playwriting and his contribution to its enrichment Sri M. G. Rangnekar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Playwriting for 1982.
