Nisar Hussain Khan

I present to you, Sir, Sri Nisar Husain Khan.
Born in 1907 at Rampur, Sri Nisar Husain belongs to a reputed family of musicians and is one of the leading Hindustani vocalists today. His early training was under his grandfather, Hyder Khan and thereafter with his father Fida Husain. Sri Nisar Husain, besides being an accomplish- ed khyal singer of Sahaswan and Gwalior gharanas is known for his expert rendering of tarana. He is also a distinguished teacher with many prominent singers as his pupils.
Sri Nisar Husain has been honoured by various learned bodies and was the Court Musician of Baroda for many years. He received the civilian Award, Padma Bhushan in 1971.
For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment, Sri Nisar Husain Khan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Vocal Music.
