Neyveli Santhanagopalan



Born on 6 June 1963 in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Shri R. Santhanagopalan received his training in music from C.S. Anandan, R. Ranganathan, and T.N. Seshagopalan.
In the course of a successful concert career, Shri R. Santhanagopalan has established himself as a leading Carnatic vocalist and has performed extensively in major music festivals both in India and overseas. He has also presented many lecture-demonstrations on music. He has been associated with many prestigious institutions as a member. The founder of Neyveli Shishyakulam, an academy of Carnatic music, he has many recordings to his credit, such as Ragas through Pallavi (a non-commercial Educative CD), Panchrathna Krithis, and Divine Moods. A popular TV channel has produced a show on his life consecutively for 8 years.
Shri R. Santhanagopalan has received many awards and titles. These include the Sangeetha Kalasarathy bestowed by Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Tamil Nadu (2008); the Sangeetha Chakravarthy given by South Indian Cultural Associations, Andhra Pradesh (2011); the Sangeetha Choodamani by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Tamil Nadu; and the Acharya Ratnakara conferred by Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, USA in 2015. Shri R. Santhanagopalan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2014 for his contribution to Carnatic vocal music.
