Nataraj Ramakrishna



Born in March 1933 in Bali Island, Shri Nataraj Rama- krishna received training in Bharatanatyam from Pandanal- lur Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai, in temple dance and abhinaya from Smt. Nayudupeta Raja- mma, in Kuchipudi from Shri Vedantam Lakshminarayana Shastri and in Navajanardhana Parijata from Pendyela Satyabhama. Besides being a performing artiste, Shri Nataraj Rama- krishna is a very gifted teacher and a scholar. He is the author of several books in Telugu and in English on Indian dance. He has done extensive research in rare dance forms — like Perini Siva Tandava and Navajanar- dhana Parijata. He is the recipient of several honours and awards including Bharata Kala Prapurna from the Andhra Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi. He is also the Presi- dent of the Andhra Pradesh Nritya Akademi. For his eminence in the field of dance and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Nataraj Ramakrishna receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Kuchipudi and Bharata- natyam for 1983.
