D. T. Joshi

I present to you, Sir, Shri Dhruva Tara Joshi.
Born in 1915, Shri Joshi is a very distinguished musician and music educationist. He was trained by great Ustads, such as, Ustad Inayat Khan in Sitar and Ustad Faiyaz Khan in vocal music and greatly inspired by masters belonging to Kirana, Gwalior and Rampur Gharanas he has to his credit many musical compositions (bundish). He has regularly broadcast over All India Radio network and served it in the capacity of Deputy Chief Producer at Delhi.
Shri Dhruva Tara Joshi has been the Dean of the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts at Indira Kala Vishwavidyalaya at Khairagarh, the founder Principal of Padmaja Naidu College of Music at Burdwan University and the Principal of Sangeet Bhavan at Viswa Bharati in Shantiniketan.
For his contributions to the cause of music education he has been honoured with the title of Master of Music by the Prayag Sangeet Samiti of Allahabad in 1960. He was made a Fellow of U.P. Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lucknow in 1974.
For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its propagation Shri Dhruva Tara Joshi has been elected Fellow of the Akademi.
