Santidev Ghosh

I present to you, Sir, Shri Santidev Ghose.
Shri Santidev Ghose was born in 1910, in the Chandpur district of what is now Bangladesh. He had his schooling at Santiniketan where along with his general studies, he pursued speciailsation in music. His merit and potential attracted the attention of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, who promptly put him under his personal guidance and groomed him for performances of Rabindra Sangeet, dance and drama. Shri Santidev Ghose also had the benefit of direct training under Dinendranath Tagore.
Shri Santidev Ghose has travelled to various parts of India and also toured Sri Lanka, Burma and Indonesia to study the dance traditions there, for use in his own work at Santiniketan. For over 40 years now, Shri Santidev Ghose has been a key figure at Santiniketan, moulding and guiding the destiny of countless aspirants to the system of music, dance and drama devised by Gurudev Tagore. During this period, many, again, are the stage presentations that Shri Santidev Ghose has directed on behalf of Viswa Bharati. Shri Santidev Ghose has served on many learned bodies and teaching institutions as examiner or adviser. He has a number of books, articles and discs to his credit. He presently heads the Department of Rabindra Sangeet and Dance at Santiniketan, under the UGC Scheme of appointment of retired teachers of exceptional merit.
