Krishnarao Ganesh Phulambrikar



I present to you, Sir, Shri Krishnarao Ganesh Phulambrikar. More popularly known as Master Krishnarao, Shri Phulambrikar was born at Alandi (Maharashtra) on 20th January, 1898. One of the foremost vocalists of his times, Shri Krishnarao studied with Bhaskarbua Bakhle who himself was a master of Agra, Jaipur and Gwalior gharanas. Besides classical music, Shri Phulambrikar has a great command of light music and has been a leading music composer and director in Marathi and Hindi, having made a debut at the age of fifteen. He was associated with the Gandharva Natak Mandali, the Prabhat and Rajkamal Films. He is also an advisor to various bodies and has been honoured by many. At present he is the President of the Bharat Gayan Samaj, Poona. Shri Krishnarao received the Padma Bhushan in 1971. He was a member of the Cultural Delegation which visited China in 1953. Shri Krishnarao is also the author of many books such as Raga Sangraha and Amar Sanger. For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Krishnarao Ganesh Phulambrikar has been elected Fellow of the Akademi.
