K. C. D. Brahaspati



I present to you, Sir, Acharya Kailash Chandra Dev Brahaspati.
Born in January 1918 at Rampur (U.P.), Acharya Brahaspati is one of our eminent musicologists. A profound scholar of Sanskrit, Philosophy, Hindi, besides Musicology, he is also well trained in the practice of the art. He received training in Hindustani Vocal Music (dhrupad, khyal and thumri) from Nawab Mirza of Rampur and in pakhawaj and tabla from Ayodhyaprasad, also of Rampur.
The author of scholarly books and research papers on music, Acharya Brahaspati also has to his credit plays and musical compositions. He has been a teacher of repute. Acharya Brahaspati has been connected with and honoured by various learned bodies. He is at present Chief Adviser for Hindustani Music, Braj Bhasa and Sanskrit at All India Radio, New Delhi.
He was the leader of a cultural delegation to Russia, Hungary and Mongolia in 1968.
For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment, Acharya Brahaspati has been elected Fellow of the Sangeet Natak Akademi
