Dilip Chandra Vedi



I present to you, Sir, Pt. Dilip Chandra Vedi. Born in March 1901 at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, Sri Dilip Chandra Vedi is a very eminent vocalist and has been active in the field of music for many decades now. He is also a reputed teacher of Hindustani Vocal Music. Besides having been a renowned khyal singer, he has earned a high reputation for his command of dhrupad and thumri. He has also created a few new ragas. Sri Vedi studied dhrupad of Tilwandi gharana, khyal, keertan, stage songs from Uttam Singh; khyal, thumri, Marathi stage songs from Bhaskar Rao Bakhle; khyal, thumri, ghazal from Faiyyaz Khan. He also learnt vocal music from Haider Khan. Sri Vedi has been honoured by a number of organizations and is connected with various universities and learned bodies. For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Sri Vedi has been elected Fellow of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
