I have the honour to present to you Shri Musiri Subramania Ayyar, a foremost exponent of vocal music of the Karnatic School. He is a pupil of Shri Sadesh Iyer, a disciple of the great Mahavaidyanath Iyer. He has been a singer of peerless popularity and fame for about four decades. The Sampradaya have acknowledg- ed him as a Lakshana-Vidwan of the highest class. He has distinguished himself as a great teacher and contributed a lot for the revival of Carnatic music. While maintaining the purity of the Raga, he has been responsible for popularising some of the lesser known ragas of Tyagaraja. Fifty-nine years of age, he is at present Principal of the Central College of Carnatic Music, Madras. For his pre-eminence in music and for his life long devotion and service to its cause, I pray, Sir, that you may be pleased to grant him recognition as musician of the year, in the field of vocal music of the Karnatic School and to award to him a Shawl, a gold Shrinkhal and a Sanad in token of that recognition.
