Ebrahim Alkazi

Allow me to present to you, Sir, Shri Ebrahim Alkazi, the winner of the Akademi Award for Stage Direction. Born in 1925, Shri Ebrahim Alkazi graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London in 1950. An associate of the Drama Board of Great Britain he was awarded the Starred Certificate for work of outstanding merit by the British Drama League. He won the BBC broadcasting award in 1950. Shri Alkazi has directed and produced over forty Eastern and Western classical and modern plays in English and Hindi with considerable distinction. Founder of the Theatre Unit’s School of Dramatic Arts in Bombay, he later guided the Natya Academy, Bombay as its Principal and is now the Director of the Akademi’s National School of Drama in Delhi. Shri Alkazi’s zeal for his art has led him to the sphere of theatre design where he has made original contributions. Through his journal, the Theatre Unit Bulletin, Shri Alkazi promotes the cause of dramatic art which he has served with rare devotion.
