I present to you Prof. Sambamoorthy. Born in 1901, he is one of our eminent musicologists. He has to his credit innumerable papers on Music, and Musicology in English, Tamil and Telugu. Himself a musician, specializing in the playing of flute, Prof. Sambamoorthy has been for long connected with the teaching of music. In the year 1931, he visited Germany and studied Western music and comparative musicology. He is the President of the faculty of Fine Arts in the University of Madras and President of South Indian Music Teachers? Association. He has been a member of the Board of Studies of various Indian Universities and is at present the Director of the Sangeeta Vadyalaya in Madras and a visiting Professor of Music at Shri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance, Tirupathi. Fittingly, he has represented India at various international conferences abroad. For his learned and devoted services to music, the Sangeet Natak Akademi has elected Prof. Sambamoorthy a Fellow of the Akademi.
