Ramsahaya Pandey

Born on 11 April 1933 in the village of Patha in Madhya Pradesh, Shri Ramsahaya Pandey learnt the folk dance of Bundelkhand from Kanaiyalal Ghoshi. His forte is the Rai dance of the region. Shri Pandey also received training in the popular Swang theatre.
Shri Ramsahaya Pandey has won wide acclaim as a performer of folk dances of Madhya Pradesh. He has performed extensively within the country in festivals organized by the Madhya Pradesh Adivasi Lok Kala Parishad, the South Central Zone Cultural Centre, the North Central Zone Cultural Centre, and Sagar University. He has travelled as far as Dubai, the Reunion Islands, Hungary and Switzerland to present his art to audiences abroad. At his institution Budeli Lok Nritya Natya Kala Parishad in Sagar, he trains young dancers in the folk arts of Madhya Pradesh.
For his meritorious work in the field of folk dance, Shri Pandey has been conferred the Nritya Shiromani Samman, the Shikhar Samman, and the Kala Sadhana award of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. He has also been honoured by the Japan Foundation.
Shri Ramsahaya Pandey receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Award for his contribution to the folk dance of Madhya Pradesh.
