Bijoy Kumar Mishra



Born on 16 July 1936 in the village of Santara Gadia in Balasore district of Orissa, Shri Bijoy Kumar Mishra is a notable Oriya playwright of post- Independence era.
Tata Niranjana has proved to be the most popular of his plays, and has been widely staged within and outside Orissa. It has been translated into Hindi. His other well-known plays include Saba Bahaka Mane, Jadukar, Ashanta Graha, and Rajanigandha. He has also written radio plays broadcast by All India Radio, and screenplays, stories and dialogue for a number of films and television serials. He has directed several documentaries and docu-dramas, as well as television serials.
Recognizing his contribution to Oriya drama, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar has conferred on him an honorary D.Litt in 2012. Several of his plays have won awards given by Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Academy of Orissa. He is a recipient of the Konark Samman given by the Government of Orissa.
