Born on 7 September 1929 in Allahabad, Shri Ganesh Prasad Sharma
received his training in music from Vaman Narayan Thakkar, Wazid
Hussain Khan, and Bholanath Bhatt. Together with vocal music, he learnt
playing the Sitar from Banwari Lal and the Tabla from Lalji Srivastava.
Shri Ganesh Prasad Sharma has performed in major music festivals in India,
and sung all along on All India Radio and Doordarshan. To propagate
Hindustani music in a region relatively less advantaged in training facilities,
he established the institution Sangeetlok in Ambala, where he has been
teaching students over many years. He has published a book on music titled
Raag Praveen for the benefit of research scholars in Hindustani music. To
advance his pedagogic interest, he has conducted a number of workshops
and seminars on music.
For his service to music, Shri Ganesh Prasad Sharma has been honoured by institutions such as the Haryana Institute of Performing Arts. He has created new ragas and has many recordings to his credit.
Shri Ganesh Prasad Sharma receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Award for his contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
