Rajeev Pulavar



Born on 1 June 1989, Shri K. Rajeev Pulavar is the thirteenth-generation puppeteer of traditional Tholpavakoothu, the shadow puppet theatre of Kerala. His father, Shri K.K. Ramchandra Pulavar, and grandfather, Shri K. Krishnan Kutty Pulavar, were eminent artists and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardees. He has received the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the scholarship from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT). Shri K. Rajeev Pulavar has taken the traditional puppetry form of Kerala to a global platform through his performances and workshops. He has introduced contemporary and social themes through shadow puppetry to young audiences. In recognition of his talent and contribution to the art of puppetry, he was honoured with the Young Talented Artist Award from South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur (2007); the Young Talented Artist Award from Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi (2011); and the Young Talented Artist Award from Kerala Folklore Academy (2015). Shri K. Rajeev Pulavar is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2016 for his notable talent in the field of Tholpavakoothu - traditional shadow puppet theatre of Kerala.
