Born in 1969 in Wankaner, Gujarat, Shri Yogesh Gadhvi imbibed the rich music tradition of his region at an early age. He hails from the illustrious family of poet Shivdanji Gadhvi, where Daayro and varied forms of poetry were composed. Under this influence he was introduced to the Charani Sangeet tradition of Gujarat. He took up music as a profession and soon achieved prominence as a singer; with time the poetry and the heritage of verse seeped into his music, and from the 1990s onwards, he began actively performing Charani Sangeet and Daayro style of folk poetic renditions. He has represented his State at various major festivals of arts in India. Shri Yogesh Gadhvi has been the former Chairman of the Gujarat Sangeet Natak Akademi, and has organized many festivals, workshops and seminars to rejuvenate the traditional Daayro recitals. He has been empanelled as a graded folk artist of All India Radio. He is associated with an organization Lok Kala and Charani Sahitya Sansthan through which he continues to promote the folk music of Gujarat. For his services to literature and music, Shri Gadhvi has been honoured with the Gujarat Gaurav Puraskar by the Government of Gujarat in 2010. Shri Yogesh Gadhvi receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the folk music of Gujarat.
