Bipin Kumar



Born in 1963 in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, Shri Bipin Kumar completed his graduation in Arts from Ranchi University, Jharkhand in the year 1983 and obtained his postgraduate diploma in Dramatic Arts from National School of Drama in the year 1987 with specialization in Acting. Shri Bipin Kumar is presently the Camp Director of National School of Drama, Sikkim Theatre Training Centre, Gangtok. Shri Kumar has directed more than 35 plays in various Indian languages such as Yayati (awarded best play by Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi), Pagla Ghora, Biyaban Mein Ugtey Kinshuk (awarded by SKP), Hamlet (in Chhotanagpuri), Ek tha Gadha, Sabhya Sanp (in Bengali), Trishanku, The Fan, Jati hi Puchho Sadhu ki, The Lower Depths, Aasadh ka ek Din, Siddhartha Gautama Dekhi Buddha Sammaek Yatra, Us Raat ke Baad, Shakuntala, Chakra ek Mahayatra, Garbo, Hum hi Apna Aap, Raj kumar Namgyal, A Love Story 1950 (in Nepali), Taj Mahal ka Tender, Romeo & Juliet (in multi languages), and many others. He established Yuva Rang Manch, Ranchi in 1981and Kshitij Theatre Group, Delhi in 1987. A former board member of the School of Programming and Visual Arts of IGNOU, New Delhi, Shri Bipin Kumar has worked with many eminent theatre personalities and acted in lead roles in many telefilms and tele-series. For his pioneering work, Shri Bipin Kumar has been honored with the Jharkhand State Government Award for Acting (2016). Shri Bipin Kumar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian theatre as a director.
