Born in 1952 in Mysore, Karnataka, Shrimati Ratnamala Prakash was initiated into music by her father, Dr R.K. Srikantan. Later, she received her training in Sugam Sangeet from Shri H.K. Narayan, Shri Mysore Ananthswamy, Shri Padmacharan, and Shri C. Ashwath. Gifted with a melodious and vibrant voice, Shrimati Ratnamala Prakash has performed in many prestigious festivals in India and abroad. She has many recordings to her credit and has conducted many workshops and lecture-demonstrations. A regular performer on All India Radio and Doordarshan, Shrimati Ratnamala Prakash has been extensively documented by the Department of Information, Government of Karnataka. For her services to music, Shrimati Ratnamala Prakash has received many titles and awards including the Karnataka Kalashree Award (1990); the Karnataka Rajyothsava State Award by the Government of Karnataka (1991); and the Shishunal Sherif award by the Government of Karnataka (2016). Shrimati Ratnamala Prakash receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Sugam Sangeet.
