Prabhakar Karekar



Born in 1944 in Goa, Shri Prabhakar Janardan Karekar received his training in Hindustani vocal music from Shri Suresh Haldankar, and Shri Jitendra Abhisheki, and was further groomed by Shri C.R.Vyas. An outstanding performer and teacher, Shri Prabhakar Karekar is a graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Shri Karekar is also the founder and Chairman of the Swarprabha Trust and has played a significant role in propagating Hindustani music. He has performed extensively across the world and has participated in lecture-demonstrations, workshops and conferences organized by various cultural institutions. Shri Prabhakar Karekar has trained several promising and accomplished young musicians. He has many recordings to his credit and has also ventured into the arena of fusion music with artists such as Ornate Coleman (U.S.A.), and Sultan Khan (India). For his services to music, Shri Prabhakar Karekar has received many titles and awards. Shri Prabhakar Janardan Karekar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
