Padma Talwalkar



Born in 1949 in Pune, Maharashtra, Shrimati Padma Suresh Talwalkar received her training in Hindustani music from Shri Gangadharbua Pimpalkhare, and Shrimati Mogubai Kurdikar. She was also a student of Shri Gajananbua Joshi. Gifted with a melodious voice, Shrimati Talwalkar is one of the leading exponents of Hindustani music. Trained in the rigorous tradition of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana, she has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India and abroad, and participated in several national and international workshops. Shrimati Talwalkar is well known also as a teacher of khayal gayaki, and has trained a number of students in the art. She has many recordings to her credit. For her services to music, she has received many titles and awards including the Kesarbai Kerkar Fellowship from the National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai; the Pandit Jasraj Puraskar; and the Late Shrimati Vatsalabai Bhimsen Joshi Puraskar. Shrimati Padma Suresh Talwalkar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
