M.S. Gopalakrishnan



Born on 10 June 1931 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Shri Gopalakrishnan received his training in Carnatic Instrumental Music (Violin) from his father A. Sundaram Iyer. He has also received training in Hindustani music from Krishnanand of Kirana gharana. Shri Gopalakrishnan is equally talented in both Carnatic and Hindustani music being the only top-grade violinist of All India Radio giving concerts in both Carnatic and Hindustani styles.
Shri Gopalakrishnan has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India and abroad. He has trained a number of students worldwide. He has also performed in national programmes on Doordarshan. He has many recordings to his credit.
Shri Gopalakrishnan has received many titles and awards including the Padma Shri by the Government of India, the Kalaimamani by Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, New Delhi.
Shri M.S. Gopalakrishnan is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
