Nedunuri Krishna Murthy



Born on 10 October 1927 in Kothapalli, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy learnt Carnatic vocal music initially from Shri Narsingarao Naidu, and later from Dr Sripada Pinakapani. He also learnt Carnatic violin from Shri Narsingarao Naidu.
Among our finest Carnatic vocalists today, Shri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy has had a long and successful concert career. A popular broadcaster on radio, he has to his credit several gramophone records of the compositions of Annamacharya. He has conducted many workshops and seminars on Annamacharya sankirtans in India and abroad. Shri Krishna Murthy has been associated with many prestigious institutions such as the Carnatic Music Audition Board of All India Radio, and the Experts Committee of the Madras Music Academy. He has many recordings to his credit of Annamayya Pada Kadambam, Raga Ranjani, and rare krithis of Tyagaraja.
He has been honoured with prestigious awards and titles including the Sangeetha Choodamani by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai, the Swar Vilas by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Sangeetha Kalanidhi by Madras Music Academy, Chennai, and the Sangeeth Samrat by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore.
Shri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
