Shri D. Raghava Chary and Shri D. Sesha Chary, popula rly known as the Hyderabad Brothers,
were born on 1 June 1952 and 10 October 1956 respectively in Hyderabad. They were groomed
in music by their parents, D. Ramamacharyulu and D. Sulochana Devi, and have been
performing together since their childhood. Shri Raghava Chary has studied also with Susarla
Sivaram. Well established in the field of Carnatic music, the duo have performed at sabhas and
festivals all over India.
The Hyderabad Brothers belong to the Thanjavu r tradition of classical music, and are well known for their rendering of Thyagaraja's Kritis, They have toured the United States, Canada, the Middle East and East Asia extensively since the 1990s. They have been featured on National Programmes of All India Radio and Doordarshan a number of times. As a staff artist on All India Radio, Shri Sesha Chary has conducted music lessons on the radio, and has presented features on composers and special aspects of Carnatic music.
The Hyderabad Brothers have been honoured for their work by several institutions. They were declared Asthana Vidwan of the Kanchi Karnakoti Peetham in 1992 and of the Ahobila Mutt in 1996. In 2012, they received t he Kala Ratna Award of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The Hyderabad Brothers - Shri D. Raghava Chary and Shri D. Sesha Chary - jointly receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for their contribution to Carnatic music.
