Rengarajan Rajkumar



Shri Rengarajan Rajkumar was born on 6 December 1985 in Reddipalayam village of Tamil Nadu. He acquired mastery in the art of Thappattam playing under the tutelage of his father Shri R. Rengarajan.
A well-known folk artist of Thappattam, he is also adept at playing traditional instruments like thavil, pambai and urumi of Tamil Nadu. He has performed extensively in major national and international festivals in Singapore, Belgium, Kuwait, Israel, Australia and France. He has made a significant contribution in promotion and preservation of art of playing the thappattam.
For his contribution in the field of thappattam drumming, Shri R. Rajkumar was honoured with the Kalai Valarmani Award conferred by the Art and Cultural Department, Government of Tamil Nadu (2010-11).
Shri Rengarajan Rajkumar is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2015 for his notable talent in the field of traditional and folk dance of Tamil Nadu.
