Kunnakudi M. Balamurali Krishna



Shri Kunnakudi M. Balamurali Krishna was born on 30th June 1985 in East Tambaram, Tamil Nadu. He received his initial training in Carnatic Vocal Music from his father Shri R. Meenakshi Sundaram and later from Shri Neyveli Santhana Gopalan and Shri V. Sunderesan. He has been pursuing his advanced training under the able guidance of Shri P.S. Narayana Swamy. He has also learnt to play the mridangam from Shri Nagai Bhasyam and Shri Karaikudi R. Mani.
He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree on the subject 'Pallavis through the Ages'. He has received several scholarships including an Advanced Training Scholarship from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), the Semmangudi Golden Jubilee Trust Scholarship, an advanced Training in Ragam- Tanam-Pallavi Fellowship from Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Shri Kunnakudi M. Balamurali Krishna is a graded artist of vocal music and mridangam of All India Radio, Chennai. He has widely performed in major music festivals in the country and abroad. Apart from this, he has given many lecturedemonstrations within and outside the country. He also has several recordings to his credit.
He is the recipient of many awards including the Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship Award from Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai, and was bestowed the title of Asthana Vidwan from the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
Shri Kunnakudi M. Balamurali Krishna is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi from year 2015 for his notable talent in the field of Carnatic Vocal Music.
