Born on 11 July 1976 in Shikaripura, Karnataka, Shrimati Dakshayani Bhat
is a graduate from Ninasam (Heggodu) and has an M.A. in Drama from
Bangalore University and a Diploma in Theatre Arts from Ninasam,
Heggodu, Karnataka. She has worked with eminent theatre personalities
including B.V. Karanth, C.R. Jambe, Iqbal Ahmed, V. Ramamurthy and
K.N. Panikker, to name a few.
Shrimati Dakshayani Bhat has been working in the field of theatre for the past 14 years. She is the founder member of the group Drushya and has directed around 70 plays. These include Gunamukha, Surya Banda, Rangadalli Ramayana, Jalastambha, Kotikate, Kolli, Paying Guest, Basthi, Bhavari Devi, Prasthutha Shakespeare, and Kempu Kanagile. She is known for her innovative style of movements as well as costume design. She has also acted in more than 20 street plays. She has also worked with physically challenged people and economically backward children, conducted theatre workshops for tribal artists, and performed street plays to create awareness about cleanliness and uplift of women in rural areas.
Shrimati Dakshayani Bhat is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for her notable talent as a director.
