Vikram Iyengar



Born on 24 December 1975 in Kolkata, Shri Vikram Iyengar received his training in Kathak dance under Rani Karnaa. Later, he obtained a Sangeet Prabhakar degree in Kathak dance from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. He completed M.A. in Theatre and the World from the University of Wales. He is a recipient of the National Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, and INLAK scholarship from the University of Wales, U.K.
Shri Vikram Iyengar has performed Kathak and Experimental Dance extensively within the country and abroad including the dance festivals organized by the Kathak Kendra and the Sangeet Natak Akademi. He has choreographed and acted in plays like Those who could not hear Music, Equus, Chitra, Nagamandala, and Crossings. Shri Vikram has choreographed several productions of Ranan and presented them at the prestigious festivals including Badal Rag Samaroh, in Bhopal, Dances of India Festival in Chennai, and Nritya Sanrachna in Agartala. He has also travelled for his performances and lecture-demonstrations to the U.K., Italy, Bhutan, Georgia, U.S.A., Hong Kong and Doha. He has published many papers in dance and theatre journals and has also been the guest editor of the Seagull Theatre Quarterly. Shri Vikram has closely worked with several wellknown choreographers such as Preethi Athreya, Padmini Chettur and David Rolland for collaborative productions. Presently, he is the Artistic Director of Ranan, and is imparting training in dance to young dancers in Kolkata.
Shri Vikram Iyengar is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for his notable talent in the field of Contemporary Dance.
