Souvik Chakraborty



Born on 11 December 1979 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Shri Souvik Chakraborty received his training in Kathak dance under Vijai Shankar and Chetna Jalan at the Padatik Dance Centre, Kolkata. He has also received training from Pandit Birju Maharaj, Saswati Sen and Kumudini Lakhia.
Shri Souvik Chakraborty has performed at many prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad including the Khajuraho Dance Festival, Konark Dance Festival and dance festivals organized by the Kathak Kendra and Sangeet Natak Akademi. He has travelled to participate at the Festival of India in Argentina, Chile, Egypt and Italy. He has performed as lead dancer in the dance-dramas choreographed by Kumudini Lakhia, Saswati Sen, Rani Karnaa, Menaka Thakkar, Zill Chuyein, Niki Constantinidis, Leah Curtis and Chetna Jalan.
Shri Souvik Chakraborty is the recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. He has received several awards and honours including Nritya Nipuna from Nalanda Dance Research Academy, Mumbai; and the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman conferred by Srjan, Bhubaneswar.
Shri Souvik Chakraborty is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for his notable talent in the field of Kathak dance.
