Giridhar Udupa



Born on 17 November 1979, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, into the family of musicians, Shri Giridhar Udupa has started learning music from his father Shri Ullur Nagendra Udupa. He further received advanced training under Shrimati Sukanya Ramgopal and Shrimati V. Suresh.
Shri Giridhar Udupa has accompanied many eminent Carnatic musicians including Shri R.K. Srikantan, Shri T.K. Murthy, Shri M. Balamuralikrishna, Shri K.J. Yesudas, and Shri Kadri Gopalnath, to name a few. Apart from performing Carnatic classical music, he has performed along-with legendary artists such as Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shri Amjad Ali Khan, Shri Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shri Shankar Mahadevan, Shri Trilok Gurtu, Shri Ernie Watts, Shri Shivamani, and Shri Louis Banks. He has performed at the prestigious United Nations with Shri L. Subramaniam in 2011. He has performed at many prestigious international festivals including at Carnegie Hall, New York, USA; Sydney Opera House, Australia; Kennedy Centre, Washington D.C., USA; Shanghai World Music Festival, Shanghai, China; and San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, San Jose, USA.
Shri Giridhar Udupa has received many awards including the Lions International Award 2011, the Madhura Murali Puraskar from Dr M. Balamuralikrishna in 2012, and the Nadajyothi Puraskar from Nadajyothi Shri Tyagaraja Swamy Bhajana Sabha 2015. He is the Director of the Udupa Foundation and founder member of Layataranga, Saagara and Indialucia, organizations devoted to the promotion of classical music.
Shri Giridhar Udupa is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for his notable talent in the field of Carnatic instrumental music.
