Sahana Banerjee



Born on 30 August 1973, in Kolkata, West Bengal, Shrimati Sahana Banerjee received her initial training in the sitar from her father Prof. Santosh Banerjee, a sitar and surbahar artiste, and disciple of Ustad Md. Dabir Khan of the Rampur-Senia Gharana. She has also received extensive training in vocal music from her mother Shrimati Chhabi Banerjee.
Shrimati Sahana Banerjee performance reflects the traditional Beenkar Dhrupad style of the Rampur Senia Gharana. She has received the Pt. Nikhil Banerjee Challenge Trophy, as Best Instrumentalist in 1990. She has performed extensively in India and abroad. She has represented Rampur- Senia gharana in seminars organised by ITC-Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata and N.C.P.A., Mumbai.
Shrimati Sahana Banerjee is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for her notable talent in the field of Hindustani instrumental music.
