Born on 25 December 1927 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Shri Ram Narayan received his initial training in
music and Sarangi from his father Nathuji Biawat and later learnt under Madhav Prasad and Abdul
Wahid Khan. Shri Ram Narayan's work is noted for its impeccable and effortless technique. He has
enjoyed a long musical association with artists such as Yehudi Menuhin, Pablo Casals, and
Rostropovich among others.
The founder of Acharya Ram Narayan Foundation, he has distinguished himself as an eminent guru and has trained a number of students. Shri Ram Narayan has performed in many prestigious music festivals both in India and abroad.
He has been widely honoured and has received many titles and awards including the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan from the Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
Shri Ram Narayan is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
