Born on 2 February 1973 in a family of traditional
dancers of village Torang, Purulia district of West
Bengal, Shri Dilip Chandra Mahato received his
initial training in Purulia Chhau under his father,
Jagru Mahato. He has also studied under
Gambhir Sing Mura.
Shri Dilip Mahato has performed extensively in the festivals organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi such as Nritya Sanrachana, Hyderabad (2008); Chhau Parva, Bhubaneswar (2009); Natya Santati, Mumbai (2009); Desaj, New Delhi (2013); the Natya Kala Conference (2011); and the Sruti Dance Festival, Chennai (2012). Shri Dilip Mahato has also performed extensively across the country in the festivals sponsored by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre. He has travelled to Turkey, Bulgaria, Dubai, Bhutan, Switzerland and Germany for his performances.
Shri Dilip Chandra Mahato is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2011 for his notable talent in the field of Chhau dance of Purulia.
