Renjini K. P.



Born on 24 March 1972 in Eloor village, Ernakulam district in Kerala, Shrimati Renjini Kizhakke Pisharom received her initial training in Kathakali under her father, Kalamandalam Vaikkom Karunakaran. Later, she learnt the art form under Fact Padmanabhan and Kalamandalam Sreekumar.
Shrimati Renjini obtained her L.L.M. degree from the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, and is pursuing her PhD on “Semiotics of Kathi in Kathakali” at the Kalamandalam Deemed University, Kerala.
Shrimati Renjini has played various character roles from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, both the Pachha and Kathi veshams. She has received critical acclaim for her role as Ravana in Ravanolbhavam, and has performed extensively at various temples in Kerala. She has also performed with various senior gurus of Kathakali such as Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair and Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair.
Shrimati Renjini Kizhakke Pisharom is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2011 for her notable talent in the field of Kathakali.
