Born on 23 January 1980 in New Delhi, Shrimati Aditee Biswas is well known for her
interdisciplinary works ranging from creating and directing dance/movement based pieces to
designing plays, stage management and production assignments and conducting workshops.
A graduate in English Honours from Delhi University (1997-2000), she obtained her threeyear
Masters Diploma in Theatre with specialization in Theatre Techniques and Design from
the National School of Drama, New Delhi (2001-04). A Masters in International Performance
Research from the University of Warwick and Universiteit van Amsterdam (2010-12), her
professional qualification also include a Research Fellowship granted by the National School
of Drama to study the use of Psychological disorders in theatre, focusing on Hysteria (2004-
05), and a two-year diploma in Media Studies from Vocational Society for Women (1997-99).
She has learnt Jazz, creative dance, and Odissi under guru Madhushree Dasgupta also.
Shrimati Biswas has been associated with many eminent theatre directors from India and
abroad. Her play Portrait of Dora featured at the Theatre Utsav 08 and was followed by
Untitled that premiered at the NSD Repertory Company's Summer Theatre Festival in 2008,
In/Out/In a dance theatre piece created in collaboration with the Max Mueller Bhavan, New
Delhi with dancers from India and Germany, which premiered at the Theater Utsav 2010. A
visiting faculty member at NSD, she is presently involved in directing an ensemble
performance piece inspired by the life of an artist. She has been associated with film
direction also, and has designed and worked as a stage manager for a number of Hindi and
English plays.
Shrimati Aditee Biswas receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva
Puraskar for the year 2012 for her notable talent as a director.
