Jasvir Kumar



Born on 27 April 1977 in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, Shri Jasvir Kumar got his postgraduation in theatre and television from Punjabi University, Patiala. Currently an artist with CEVA Drama Repertory Company, Chandigarh, he has worked with eminent theatre personality Gursharan Singh for four years. Shri Kumar has also attended numerous theatre workshops such as the National School of Drama's Annual Regional Workshop in Amritsar in 2003 and 2004, Clowning Workshop with Sebi Methias and Gebi Ruth from Mexico, Advanced Clowning Workshop conducted by Ana Madurariara, Portugal, and a Mime Workshop conducted by Niranjan Goswami.
Shri Kumar has acted in 120 plays with different directors of India. Some of the most prominent plays he has acted in include Nagamandala, Raja Lear, Mrichchhakatikam, Dakghar, Romeo Juliet and Seven Clowns, Mitti Rudan Kare, Heer Ranjha, Zindagi Retire Nahin Hoti and Letter to God. Acting in different genres of plays ranging from rural theatre to urban community theatre, he has also performed in around 4500 street shows across India. Shri Jasvir Kumar has also directed some plays. He has participated in a number of theatre festivals. Some of his major performances include Baru in Baldev Moga's Mitti Rudan Kare (2004), Manushya in Girish Karnad's Nagamandala (2005) and Edmund in Shakespeare's Raja Lear (2006) directed by Gursharan Singh, to name a few.
Shri Jasvir Kumar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2012 for his notable talent as an actor.
