Born in 1927 in Ahmedabad, Shri Arvind Natverlal Parikh received his training in Sitar under Ustad Vilayat Khan in the 1940s. Among his foremost disciples, he represents the Imdadkhani school of Hindustani instrumental music and ranks high among Sitar exponents today. He has performed regularly over the years, both on stage and All India Radio, producing several records, audio cassettes, and CDs of his music. He has also published scholarly articles on music. Apart from practicing music, Shri Parikh has been active in promoting discussion and exchange in his chosen field, and has organized many national and international seminars. He has served as a trustee on the board of the ITC-Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata; Coordinator of All India Musician’s Group (AIMG); Vice-President of International Music Council of UNESCO; and Convener of Indian Musicological Society, Mumbai. As a mentor and guru, Shri Parikh has a number of illustrious disciples. He has many recordings to his credit. For his contribution to music, Shri Parikh has been honoured with the Gaurav Puraskar of Gujarat for 1998; the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award; and the Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Samman of Madhya Pradesh. Shri Arvind Natverlal Parikh is elected Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
