Born on 17 July 1970 in Mumbai into the illustrious Dagar family of Dhrupad musicians, Shri Baha'ud-din Dagar was introduced to the Rudra Veena by his father Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the eminent Veena exponent. Shri Baha 'ud-din Dagar learnt vocal music under Zia Fariduddin Dagar and received instruction in the Surbahar from Pushpraj Koshti.
Shri Baha'ud-din Dagar is today acknowledged as a leading Veena artist of the Dhrupad trad ition. The custodian of a rich inheritance of music, he has used his talent to draw younger people into the field of classical music. He has, further, expanded the horizons of his traditional music by redesigning the Rudra Veena and the Saraswat i Veena . He has made a mark at music festivals in India and abroad, and performed regularly over All India Radio and Doordarshan.
He has taught music at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, from 2001 to 2005. Outside of classical music, he has composed themes for documentary films such as Cloud Door directed by Mani Kaul. He has a number of recordings to his credit.
For his work in the field of music, Shri Baha'ud-din Dagar has been conferred the Sanskriti award (2005), the Raza Foundation award (2007), and the Yuvak Sadhak award of the Lalmani Mishra Foundat ion, Bhopal (2007).
Shr i Baha'ud-din Dagar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the music of Rudra Veena.
