Born in 1937 in Calcutta, Shri Mohan Chandrasekaran was initiated into Carnatic violin by his mother Shrimati Charubala Mohan. He made an early debut in public concerts — starting out as an accompanist, later graduating to solo perform- ances. As an accompanist Shri Chandrasekaran has perform-ed with most of the illustrious Carnatic vocalists of our time, among them Shri Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Shri G.N. Balasubramanian, Shri Madurai Mani Iyer, Shri Maha- rajapuram Viswanatha Iyer. He has also given solo recitals all over the country, tours abroad taking him to the United States, Canada and Malaysia. Among other honours Shri Chandra- sekaran received in 1980 the title of Kalaimamani from the Government of Tamil Nadu. For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Mohan Chandrasekaran receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Carnatic Instrumental Music for 1986.
