I present to you, Sir, Smt. Rohini Bhate. Smt. Rohini Bhate was born in 1924. She spent a lifetime in the service of Kathak dance. She received training in the art from Shri Lachhu Maharaj and Shri Mohanrao Kallianpurkar. Having imbibed the best in the Lucknow and Jaipur Gharanas of Kathak, she has evolved her own individual style while keeping within the form and aesthetics of the tradition. She has had long experience of teaching and performance, and has also served the art as a member of Advisory Commit- tees and Boards of Studies of Khairagarh University, Kathak Kendra and Rajasthan Sangeet Sansthan. Smt. Rohini Bhate has done choreography in Kathak and produced a number of new compositions and dance- dramas. She has performed in India and abroad. She has worked as dance director for Hindi and Marathi films and has participated in a number of seminars on dance. She is the author of four books in Marathi, which include translations of the autobiography of Isadora Duncan and of the Abhinaya Darpanam. She has been honoured for her work by the University of Pune and the Maharashtra State. She is the Founder-Director of the Nrityabharati Kathak Dance Academy, which celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1972. For her eminence in the field of dance and her contribution to its enrichment Smt. Rohini Bhate receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Kathak dance for 1979.
