मृणालिनी विक्रम साराभाई

Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 1970 Dance - Creative Dance/Choreography I present to you, Sir, Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai. Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai was born in Madras. She received training in Bharat Natyam from Gurus Muthukumaran Pillai, Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai, Ellappa and Chockalingam Pillai and in Kathakali from Guru Kunju Kurup. With this solid foundation, Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai launched explorations on her own into the whole realm of dance and, through the years, emerged with a number of productions, some using traditional India dance motifs and some a stylistic idiom evolved by herself. Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai has received several awards and decorations for her work in dance, both in India and abroad. These include a Medal and Diploma from the ‘Archives Internationales de la Dance’, Paris, a Gold Medal and Diploma from the Mexican Government and an Award for Dance from the Gujarat Sangeet Nritya Natya Academy. She has been honoured with the civilian award of Padma Shree. Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai is an advisory member for some performing institutions and universities. She is also the author of some books on dance and of several articles and essays on the subject. She is Honorary Director of the Darpana Academy, Ahmedabad. For her eminence in the field of dance and her contribution to its enrichment, Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Creative and Experimental Dance.
