Born on 15 March 1974 in Seraikella in Jharkhand, Shri Satish Kumar
Modak belongs to a traditional family of musicians. He received his
training in Seraikella Chhau dance from gurus Lingaraj Acharya, Tarun
Bhol, Jai Narayan Samal, Makardwaj Daragha, and Shashadhar Acharya.
He joined and specialized in the art form at the Sangeet Natak Akademi's
Project of Support to Chhau dances in Seraikella. He has also received
training in Nagada playing under Shri Mangala Mukhi.
Shri Satish Kumar Modak has performed extensively in prestigious dance festivals within the country and abroad both as a soloist and in groups such as Nritya Pratibha, Nritya Sangam and Chhau Parva of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Konark Dance Festival, Delhi International Arts Festival and Khajuraho Festival. He has also performed at the Festival of India held in Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, France, Indonesia and Taiwan.
Shri Satish Kumar Modak is a recipient of Junior Fellowship from the Department of Culture, Government of India to undertake research on Chhau dance. He is presently imparting training to young trainees in Sangeet Natak Akademi's Project of Support to Seraikella Chhau Dance in Seraikella.
Shri Satish Kumar Modak is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for his notable talent in the field of Chhau dance.
